The Most Basic Thing of Windows 8 you need to know

When I started my computer with Windows 8 Developers Preview I dint knew how to Logoff, shutdown or restart and even lock the computer using mouse any way I knew the keyboard shortcut for Lock the computer, Windows Logo + L keyboard shortcut will lock the computer

How to open Task Manager in Windows 8 Developers Preview

  • Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete on your keyboard and even Ctrl+Shift+Esc will opens the task manager
  • Choose the last option Task Manager, the Task Manager Will opens up this will shows only running task,

In Windows 8 Developers Preview the Task Manager is enhanced select more details to see all theRunning tasks in detail
This kind of View shows you all Processes running on your computer, Performs, History of App, All Startup programs Users currently active, Running and Stopped Services you can start stop and restart the services

The New Windows 8 Developers Preview has Ribbon on the Explorer, This was developed and brought in Microsoft Office 2007, and it was not integrated in Outlook 2007, later in 2010 the Ribbon was integrated in Outlook, New Microsoft has stepped in to next generation Explorer with Ribbon Easy to use and its very use full.

Why did Microsoft add a Ribbon in Explorer?

Microsoft has Researched how people most frequently invoke commands in Explorer, the below graph is the one of the reason why Microsoft added Ribbon in Explorer

This is an example for how frequently we use this commands in Windows Explorer, and this is one of the reason for why did Microsoft add the Ribbon in Explorer, The Home tab is the heart of our new, much more streamlined Explorer experience. The commands that make up 84% of what customers do in Explorer are now all available on this one tab

What are the features and How to use Windows 8 Explorer?

When i saw the ribbon first time, Honestly i din’t like it so I closed the ribbon and used it in normally, When I was working in explorer opening folder and files the tab use get highlighted like same in Office 2007 and 2010, I liked it and I got use to it, it made my work more faster than before,
  • If you don’t like the Ribbon Bar in your explorer, Click arrow Button on left side top of you Explorer directed to upwards or double click on Computer tab or View Tab, This hides your Ribbon Bar from Explorer
 To Bring back the Ribbon Bar in the same way , Click arrow Button on left side top of you Explorer directed to Downwards or double clicks on Computer tab or View Tab, This’ll brings back your Ribbon Bar in Explorer

One of the top requests from more advanced users is for more keyboard shortcuts. All of the existing Windows Explorer shortcuts work in this version of Explorer, but with new windows Explorer approach, all of the approximately 200 commands in the ribbon now have keyboard shortcuts as well.
  • You can use shortcut to make your job still faster than before Open Windows Explorer Press Alt on your keyboard This will show you the hot keys for the command to execute
 Add the command on quick access tool bar which you frequently use, it’s located in left side top of your Explorer
 Open New Window command, opens the another window of same folder
 Open New Window command opens in existing process
 Open New Window in New Process command opens the another window of same folder and in new process

Open Command Prompt: – Dragging a file or shortcut to the Command Prompt window is not supported in this version of Windows. However, if you want to quickly enter the path to a file or shortcut in the Command Prompt window, You can use this option,
 You can even hold shift and right click on folder to open command prompt window this option is available in windows Vista and even in windows 7

 Clear History will clear all the history of your explorer and Recent item list
 Change Folder and search Options shows all favorite places, and if you click on that option it will direct you to Folder Option
 Windows 8 Folder Option You can change the way files and folders function and how items are displayed on your computer by using Folder Option

What are the Commands in Computer Tab, What do they do and How to Use it?
  • Open: – Opens drive or a folder in just one click
  • Properties: – Shows the Properties of Drive, Folder or a file which ever you select
  • Rename: – You can Rename a File Folder or a Drive with Just one Click, no need to right and select Rename and you can use F2 shortcut for Rename file and folder
  • Map Network Drive: – Map a folder as a drive by specifying the network path of the folder
  • Add a Network Location: – This is use add a network for online storage and even you can create a shortcut to your Ftp Site
  • Open Control Panel:- This command will open Control Panel view and manipulate basic system settings and controls
  • Uninstall Or Change a Program: – This opens Programs and features using this You can uninstall programs or to change the program’s configuration
  • System Properties:- Views the basic Information about your Computer

What are the Commands in Computer Tab, What do they do and How to Use it?
  • Navigation Pane: – which provides centralized navigation and easy access to sharing features on left side of Explorer, you can Turn off or Turn on using this command
  • Detail Pane :- Shows you the details of any file, folder or a drive on the left side of your Explorer
 Preview Pane :- When you select any Readable text file of an Image, it will preview on left side of Explorer
 Layout: - you can customize to visual look of folders, files and drive
 Sort By:- Sorts your file folder and Drives By Name, Type Total Size, File System, Comments, Network Location, Percent Full, Ascending or Descending and even you can add more option by selecting Choose Columns…, this option is even in the Right Click
 Group By :- You can Group your files, folders and Drives By Name Type Total Size Free Space, File System, Comments, Network Location, Percent Full, Ascending or Descending and even you can add more option by selecting Choose Columns…, this option is even in the Right Click
 Legacy Toolbars: – this is available only if you have to install Office in your system, Grove Folder synchronization used to sync your files folders to SharePoint

In this post we are going to see the screenshots of all other features of Windows Explorer
When you select any Drive in Computer (My Computer) The new Tab called Drive will appear and it’ll be highlighted with the colored Tab named as Disk Tools.

What are the Commands in Drive Tab, What do they do and How to Use it?

Auto Play: – It is also called as Auto Run, displays content such as pictures, music or video files, launches an appropriate application to play or display the content
Eject: – Ejects the CD/DVD Drive and even safely removes the removal USB media

 The below image is an example for Auto Play, In Windows XP, Vista and Win 7 the Auto Play use to display in center now in Windows 8 it displays at bottom left side

Close Session:- The disc session is closed by default when you eject a disc that can be burned in multiple sessions (called multi-session capable discs, such as CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD-R, and BD-R discs), as well as for single-session capable discs (such as such DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL, and BD-RE discs)
Erase The Disk: – If your computer is equipped with a CD/DVD recorder that supports CD/DVD rewritable (CD/DVD-RW) discs, you can erase and then reuse the rewritable disc
Bit Locker: – Helps Protect tour data form theft or by hack, It keeps everything from documents to passwords safer by encrypting your Hard Disk Drive USB storage devise such as Pen drive, USB External Hard Disk
Format: – If you insert a Re-Writable CD/DVD or USB Devise you can format the Pen-drive, CD/DVD and even External Hard-drive or internal drive
Cleanup: – Cleanup also Disk Clean Up, This tool deletes unnecessary or temporary files on your hard disk so you can increase the amount of storage space you have and even your system performance
Optimize: – It is Disk Defragmenter tool, this tool helps you to increase the performance of your computer, Disk Defragmenter consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer’s hard drive, so that each occupies a single, contiguous space on the volume As a result, your system can gain access to your files and folders and save new ones more efficiently. By consolidating your files and folders, Disk Defragmenter also consolidates the hard drive free space, making it less likely that new files will be fragmented

What are the Commands in Search, What do they do and How to Use it?

When you select the search box the new tab called Search will appear and it’ll be highlighted with toe colored tab named as Search Tools.
Computer: – If you select it you will be able to search your files and folders in all the drive of your computer
Current Folder: – The search commend will search for the files and folders in the current folder only
All Subfolders: – This commend will search for your files and folders in current folder and in the all subfolders
Date Modified: – If you remember last modified date of the file you will be able to search it by using this command and you can even search folder by if you know the creation date of the folder
Kind: – By using this command you can search file what kind of a file to be searched, you can searchCalendar, Communication, Contact, Document, E-Mail, Feed, Folder, Games, Instant Message Journal, Links, Movies, Music, Note, Picture, Playlist, Program, Recorded TV, Saved Search Task, Videos and Web History
Size: – If you know the approximate file size by using this command you will be able to search to files by sizes like Empty (0KB), Tiny (0-10KB), Small (10-100KB), Medium (100KB-1MB), Large (1-16MB), Huge (16-128MB), Gigantic (more than> 128MB)


Other Properties: – By using this command you can search by Folder Path, Tag, and Name
If you have tagged an image you can search in this option.
 In windows Vista and win 7 the tag will appear below the explorer information bar

Advanced Options: – In the command you can search in Partial Matches, Chang Indexing Location, In Windows Vista and Win 7 By default indexing was enabled in files contents, system files Zipped folders was not indexed, in Windows 8 this is optional you can enable or disable it, by enabling this feature your computer performance might slows down, But it is very use full when the indexing is full your computer will boost up again.

In a Search Box I have typed Tech Bit N Byte the search result was completed, the file found was Praveen.txt
Here Tech Bit N Byte is content in the Praveen.txt file, this is how the search will work
 To enable this feature select Advanced Options check all the option below In non-indexed locations
